THE IMMUNE SYSTEM IS NOT ATTACKING YOU.
Your Body Isn't Trying to Kill You
Can I ask you something?
When was the last time you thanked your immune system?
Probably never.
Most people curse it.
"My allergies are acting up."
"My body's attacking itself."
"My inflammation is terrible."
But what if we've been looking at it all wrong?
What if your immune system isn't the bad guy?
What if it's the firefighter showing up because your house has been smoldering for years?
See, we love to blame the smoke alarm.
It's loud.
It's annoying.
It keeps us awake.
So what do we do?
We pull the batteries out.
But the smoke is still there.
That's how I think we've started treating our bodies.
We spend so much time asking, "How do I stop this symptom?" that we never stop to ask, "Why is my body doing this in the first place?"
God didn't build your body to wake up every morning looking for a fight.
He designed it to protect you.
Every fever...
Every white blood cell...
Every bit of inflammation...
They're all part of an army He created to defend the temple He gave you.
Is it possible for that system to become dysregulated? Absolutely. We live in a fallen world, and our bodies can become sick in many different ways. But more often than not, symptoms are your body telling you something deserves your attention, not your hatred.
I think we've forgotten how to listen.
Instead of asking, "What pill shuts this up?"
Maybe we should ask...
"What changed?"
"What am I feeding this body?"
"When was the last time I rested?"
"Have I been carrying stress like it's a badge of honor?"
"Have I been drinking water... or just coffee?"
God made this body with incredible wisdom.
The same God who designed the stars designed your immune system.
That's not an accident.
The same God who put blood in your veins put herbs in the ground.
The same God who formed Adam from the dust knew exactly what this body would need long before we ever walked the earth.
That doesn't mean every answer grows in a field, and it doesn't mean we should ignore doctors. It means we shouldn't ignore the wisdom God built into His creation either.
Sometimes the answer starts with better food.
Sometimes it's more sleep.
Sometimes it's less sugar.
Sometimes it's dealing with stress.
Sometimes it's finally making that doctor's appointment you've been putting off.
Sometimes it's getting on your knees and spending real time with the Lord.
And sometimes the problem began by an outside source you couldn't control such as exposure.
The point is this...
Your body has been talking to you for a long time.
The question is...
Have you been listening?
"Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost... therefore glorify God in your body..."
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (KJV)
Maybe today isn't about finding another quick fix.
Maybe today is about honoring the Designer by paying attention to His design.
I think that's where healing often begins.
The inflammation isn't the problem. It is whatever caused your body to say, "Hey something is wrong". Once the source is taken care of, the rest takes care of itself. That is the way God designed it.
